Frequently Asked Questions

Here you can find answers to the most common questions about my cultivation, plants, and shipping.

What grow lights do you use?

I use two different types of supplemental lighting, depending on plant stage and purpose.

For my private collection, I use commercial Philips grow lights that are not available to private customers.

For seedlings and young plants, I use Jungle Leaves grow lights (26W). These are sufficient for early growth stages.

Since I grow in a greenhouse, I primarily rely on natural sunlight. During summer, no artificial lighting is required. Supplemental lighting is used mainly under tables or in areas with limited light exposure.

Lights are typically used for around 8 hours per day.

Lighting requirements may vary depending on your individual setup.

Can I fertilize my Nepenthes?

Yes. Nepenthes can be fertilized carefully.

I personally use Osmocote Pro (slow-release fertilizer, approx. 9 months duration). I apply 4–5 pellets per pot in peat-based substrate.

During summer, I occasionally use foliar fertilizer (Wuxal) and supplement trace elements if deficiencies are observed.

Always fertilize moderately. Nepenthes are adapted to low-nutrient environments. Overfertilization can damage plants.

How long do Nepenthes seeds take to ripen and germinate?

Seed ripening depends on temperature and genetics.

In cooler conditions, seed capsules may take 6–7 months to mature. In warmer conditions, ripening can occur within 2–3 months.

Germination typically takes between 2–6 months, but some species may require longer. Patience is essential.

Ripe seed capsules usually turn brown and open easily when gently pressed.

Are all available plants listed in the shop?

Yes.
All available plants are always listed in the webshop.

If a plant is not listed, it is currently sold out.

Do you reserve plants?

Plants are sold on a first-come, first-served basis.

Reservations are generally not offered unless explicitly stated.

Can I choose the exact plant?

Unless specifically stated otherwise, plants are selected randomly from healthy stock of the same batch and size.

Do you ship worldwide?

Yes, I ship internationally.

For shipments outside the European Union, CITES export permits and phytosanitary certificates are provided where required by law.

Who is responsible for import permits?

The buyer is fully responsible for:

- Checking local import regulations

- Obtaining required import permits

- Paying customs duties and inspection fees

Please verify regulations in your country before placing an order.

What happens if customs delays or confiscates my package?

I am not responsible for customs delays, additional inspection fees, or confiscation due to missing import permits.

Import compliance is the responsibility of the buyer.

Why are some plants more expensive than others?

Price differences reflect:

- Growth speed

- Time to maturity

- Rarity and availability

- Propagation difficulty

- Space and cultivation effort

My goal is always to offer healthy plants at fair and realistic prices.

Why does my plant not have large pitchers yet?

Young Nepenthes typically produce smaller pitchers.

Pitcher size and coloration improve with:

- Maturity

- Stable conditions

- Adequate light

- Proper temperature

Patience is key when growing Nepenthes.
